WHO WE ARE

As a satellite of the National Writing Project, Coalfield Writers is a network of practicing Pre-K through college-level teachers and administrators who provide professional development, develop resources, generate research, and act on knowledge to improve the teaching of writing and learning in rural schools and communities. Since 1999, Coalfield Writers has served teachers across disciplines and at all levels.

With support from Marshall University Writing Project and a partnership with Logan County Schools, our focus is to provide high quality, sustained professional development for southern
coalfield educators who are geographically distant from the university.

Like the National Writing Project, Coalfield Writers believes that access to high-quality educational experiences is a basic right of all learners and a cornerstone of equity. We work to develop and sustain diverse leadership for educational improvement. Coalfield Writers values and seeks the expertise of classroom teachers and research based practices to enrich and improve both the quality and the satisfaction of the educational experience for all.
