Pre-Institute Book StudyPrior to the first day of the institute members are asked to read and respond to a text about writing. This year we'll be reading and responding to "The 9 Rights of Every Writer: A Guide for Teachers" by Vicki Spandel. The purpose of this book study is to ground the SI group in solid and smart writing theory, and to begin creating a community of learners interested in a common aspect of education -- how writing can contribute to our classrooms. The pre institute book study is very important. Members of the institute are expected to fully participate in the bookstudy and come to the institute having contributed to the online electronic disucssion. Each week a new prompt will be posted on Sunday. SI participants have until the following Saturday to: 1. Complete their post and 2. Comment on a minimum of two other posts. April Estep, who will facilitate the discussion, will give members a schedule via email. Note the way the pages nest and where comments and replies to comments go. Think about this as a conversation between a large group (comments to the weekly prompt), but also individual conversations between 2 or more people (replies to comments) that we're all following. Edit your contributions appropriately, please. If you need help, feel free to email Peggie. |
